SafeRent, a student startup team from Hong Kong Shue Yan University (HKSYU), was named one of the ten outstanding teams at the Cyberport University Partnership Programme 2026 (CUPP) Graduation Ceremony. The team was awarded HK$100,000 in seed funding from the Cyberport Creative Micro Fund (CCMF) to support the development of its product prototype over the next six months as it embarks on its entrepreneurial journey.
Dr Philip Lee, Associate Head of the Department of Economics and Finance and the mentor for the student team, said, “Happy to see the students’ efforts have paid off. This is not the end but the beginning of their entrepreneurial journey, and the Shue Yan family will continue to guide and support them.
The “SafeRent” team consists of three students from the Department of Economics and Finance and one student from the Department of Data Science and Digital Innovation at HKSYU, as well as one student from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. SafeRent is a one-stop rental service platform operating under the slogan “Rent with peace of mind, protection, stability, and confidence in Hong Kong.” It leverages artificial intelligence (AI) technology to help users search for rental listings, compare prices, and access genuine transaction clues. Additionally, it offers a “Listing and Lease Review” service to review lease terms and verify property identities. The platform can also arrange on-site assistance to create verifiable, reviewable, and follow-up-ready property records, providing users with on-site videos, risk verification, and contract communications via platform notifications and email follow-ups.
This year, the programme continued to receive support from 12 local universities, admitting 20 teams to participate in entrepreneurship training. More than 50 students attended an entrepreneurship boot camp at the The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) in the United Kingdom, with around 60% coming from outside Hong Kong, including Central Asian and ASEAN countries. This reflects the programme’s steady development into an important platform bringing together local and international I&T talent.
This year’s CUPP further integrates overseas entrepreneurship training with real-world industry experience. Through the overseas entrepreneurial boot camp, participants can broaden their international perspectives and gain insights into global entrepreneurship trends. Meanwhile, the collaboration with the Hong Kong Monetary Authority on IPMN 2.0 provides valuable opportunities to engage with real industry applications and enhances participants’ ability to apply innovative technologies to solve practical problems.
