Since graduating from Department of Journalism and Communication at Hong Kong Shue Yan University (HKSYU) in 2013, Mr Fred Pui Ho-fai has built a successful career in the media industry spanning over 12 years. Throughout this journey, he has remained closely connected to his alma mater—not only as a part-time lecturer teaching courses such as Sports Communication and Storytelling, but also as a registered coach with the Volleyball Association of Hong Kong and head coach of HKSYU’s women’s volleyball team.
Through these roles, Fred is committed to giving back to the university by nurturing future media talent. He encourages students to engage with Hong Kong’s evolving sports landscape and contribute to telling the city’s story from diverse positions in society.
With the official launch of Kai Tak Sports Park and Hong Kong co-hosting several competitions in the 15th National Games, Fred sees sports as a key driver of economic development. He believes strategic communication can significantly enhance the impact of sports initiatives. However, there remains a shortage of talent in areas such as event planning, public relations, promotion, and athlete support within the local sports industry. Fred also sees potential in the growing e-sports industry and encourages students to engage with local professionals to better understand the industry’s development, opportunities, and challenges. By identifying gaps in talent, students can better equip themselves for future careers in these emerging fields.
