A team of five students from Hong Kong Shue Yan University’s Department of Economics and Finance has clinched the Bronze Award in the Personal Finance Ambassador Programme 2024/25. The citywide competition, supported by the HKEX Foundation and co-organized by the Investor and Financial Education Council (IFEC) and St. James’ Settlement, held its presentation and awards ceremony on January 18, 2025.
Competing under the name “Financial Trap Spotters,” the HKSYU team stood out among 21 teams representing 13 higher education institutions across Hong Kong. After undergoing intensive training, the team was appointed as official Personal Finance Ambassadors to lead a dynamic on-campus campaign under the theme“ Money Trap.” In November last year, the team launched a Halloween haunted house, a dodgeball tournament, and a DIY bracelet workshop for the campaign—drawing close to 600 participants.
The creative campaign earned them a spot among the final six teams. Their final presentation in January impressed the judges with a clear, impactful financial literacy message tailored for their peers. The team was awarded “The Excellent Financial Education Project Bronze Award” at the ceremony.
Now in its eighth year, the Personal Finance Ambassador Programme continues to equip tertiary students with the knowledge for sound financial management, as well as tools to make informed personal financial decisions on campus and beyond.
CAI Yu jing: “It was a great honour to represent HKSYU and achieve success in the Personal Finance Ambassador Programme. While preparing our campaign, I researched common financial scams and discovered how psychological tactics are used to deceive victims. I also learned how to foster team collaboration and boost audience engagement through interactive events.”
