The Department of Counselling and Psychology at Hong Kong Shue Yan University (HKSYU) hosted the “Mental Health Day: The Healing Power of Chatting” seminar and workshops on 17 July 2026. Experts from education, social welfare, psychology, and sports gathered to explore approaches to mental health and stress relief, while equipping front-line educators with strategies to foster an inclusive campus environment. Ms Lee San-san, former Miss Hong Kong, was invited as the keynote speaker. Drawing on her personal battle with panic disorder, she shares how she overcame life’s darkest moments.

In his opening remarks, Dr Chow Tak-sang, Vice President (University Administration), emphasised that HKSYU has always regarded education as more than the transmission of knowledge. More importantly, it serves as a vital force in addressing societal needs and promoting collective development, while upholding the university motto: “Cultivating virtues of benevolence; broadening horizon and knowledge.”

Professor Hue Ming-tak, Vice President (Graduate School) and BAT Programme Coordinator, highlighted that the seminar’s theme, “The Healing Power of Chatting,” conveyed a crucial message: everyone’s inner voice deserves to be heard and understood. When individuals can openly express their feelings and receive appropriate responses and support, it carries profound significance for emotional well-being and mental health.
