Hong Kong Shue Yan University (HKSYU) held its Annual Scholarship Award Ceremony, with Mr Chris Sun Yuk-han, JP, Secretary for Labour and Welfare, serving as Guest of Honour. Senior management and donor representatives were also in attendance. This year, a total of 320 students received scholarships and bursaries, including 274 scholarships, 76 service scholarships, and 30 bursaries, amounting to HK$3.24 million.

In his address, Dr Chow Tak-sang, Vice President (University Administration), noted that 2026 marks both the 55th anniversary of HKSYU’s founding and the 20th anniversary of its university status. Reflecting on the past, he remarked that the University has advanced steadily despite challenges; looking ahead, it will continue to uphold its educational mission, foster the integration of digital technology with the humanities and social sciences, and nurture a new generation of talents with global vision and social responsibility.

Dr Chow emphasised that HKSYU has always believed education is not only about acquiring knowledge but also about cultivating character. He expressed hope that the scholarship and bursary system would inspire students to strive for excellence, surpass themselves, and transform their learning into a driving force for social progress. He encouraged awardees to make full use of available resources, broaden their horizons, pursue their ideals with courage, and turn today’s recognition into momentum for future achievements.

One student from the Department of Journalism and Communication and another from the Department of Business Administration were awarded the “Chiu Siu Yin Lovinia Scholarships”. They engaged with donor and alumna Ms Lovinia Chiu, founder of Medialink Group Limited, who shared her insights on lifelong learning. Ms Chiu advised students to embrace continuous learning to bridge knowledge gaps rather than study solely for examinations, stressing that a genuine thirst for knowledge is a quality highly valued by employers.
