The Hong Kong Shue Yan University (HKSYU) Annual Scholarship Award Ceremony was successfully completed on 30 April 2021 at the Lady Lily Shaw Hall. In view of the COVID-19 epidemic this year, only awardees and senior management were invited to attend the Ceremony. Honorable donors, awardees’ friends or relatives and mainland students have also been invited to join the Ceremony through the live broadcast together. As more and more people support the educational values of Shue Yan in the society nowadays, the total amount of the scholarships and bursaries this year has increased to more than $3.1 million. A total of 305 students with outstanding performance in academic or voluntary services were awarded during the Ceremony.
HKSYU has always pursued education that promotes benevolence. In seeking to nurture learned and capable students, it is equally committed to cultivating the youngsters into persons of honour. During the Ceremony, Dr. HU Fai Chung, Deputy President, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all the donors, alumni and organizations supporting Shue Yan throughout the years. He encouraged the awardees should take the advantages of this valuable experience and prepare for all the challenges ahead in their lives.
Shue Yan is celebrating its 50th Anniversary this year, Dr. HU also promised that the university will strive for more resources and support in order to gain more scholarships and opportunities for the students in the coming future.
Nearly 300 students have attended the ceremony in person and received their awards in the hands of senior management.
Victor SO, a final year student from the Department of Accounting represented the awardees and delivered a thank you speech to all donors. He promised that he would learn from the generous donors and give back to the community after his graduation. The ceremony ended with a round of applause to acknowledge the honourable donors.
In addition, 154 students have been awarded the scholarships under the HKSAR Self-financing Post-secondary Scholarship Scheme with the total amount of more than 3 million for the academic year of 2020/2021. To summarize, there are a total of 642 scholarships and bursaries with the amount of nearly $8 million that have been distributed in the first and second semester.
