Summer School Spotlight: Shanghai Jiao Tong University
Get ready to experience the energy of one of China’s most prestigious universities! HKSYU recently hosted an information session featuring Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) about their Summer School.
With a history of over 130 years, Shanghai Jiao Tong University is a powerhouse of innovation and academic excellence. Ranked among the top universities in the world, SJTU brings together cutting-edge research, global perspectives, and an electric campus atmosphere. The Summer School offers:
- Flexible Learning: Choose from over 100 courses across Business, Economics, Arts, Sciences, and more—all taught in English.
- Distinguished Faculty: Faculty affiliated with top institutions such as Harvard, Oxford, and the University of Chicago.

Summer School Highlights: University of Westminster and Oxford
This year, HKSYU welcomed prestigious UK universities that brought the thrill of summer programmes straight to our campus through information sessions.
University of Westminster: Ms Lauren Mallon from the Global Mobility Team introduced opportunities to study in London for 3 or 6 weeks. In their free time, students can explore landmarks such as Big Ben, the British Museum, and Camden Market.
University of Oxford: In the past summer, nearly 30 HKSYU students lived the dream, exploring the historic campuses of Oxford through Summer School programmes. Representatives from Hertford College and Worcester College visited HKSYU, bringing the magic of Oxford to life—sharing course structures, showcasing college accommodations, and highlighting academic field trips, offering students a taste of Oxford’s historic learning environment.

My time in Turkey immersed me in the profound beauty of its art and history. In class, I explored the rich colours and intricate patterns of Ottoman court art, but it was in the museum that history truly came alive. Seeing those exquisite tiles, calligraphy, and carvings up close revealed the deep meaning woven into each piece. I also delved into ancient Anatolian civilizations—from the Hittites to the Byzantines—and witnessed how each culture layered its story into this land. This journey taught me that art is more than decoration; it’s a living narrative of beliefs, traditions, and human creativity—an experience I’ll carry forever.

My summer exchange at Hanyang University ERICA was transformative. Beyond beginner Korean classes, I lived the culture—dancing with new friends at a welcome party, screaming on rides at Lotte World, and feeling the electric energy of the SBS Summer Music Festival. Sharing meals of kimchi, bibimbap, and bulgogi taught me how food connects people. Most importantly, I formed lasting bonds with students from around the world. This experience didn’t just teach me about Korea—it broadened my horizons and gifted me memories and friendships that transcend borders.”

Lunar New Year Workshop – Year of the Horse
The annual Lunar New Year workshop welcomed exchange students from Japan, the United Kingdom, Russia, and countless other corners of the globe to celebrate the Year of the Horse.
Festive Food: The table overflowed with classic festive treats: egg rolls, almond strips, and butter cookies.
Calligraphy: The calligraphy area was a delightful mix of concentration and laughter. It was heartwarming to see students pulling out their phones to search for heartfelt Lunar New Year blessings in Chinese. Some students infused their personal touch by adding blessings in their native languages. Spring Couplets embellished with Japanese Kanji, bold Cyrillic script from Russia, and a cheerful “Happy New Year” in English—all dancing harmoniously on the same vibrant red paper!
Stamp Carving (拓印): Students crafted their own rubber stamps featuring horses, the “福” (fortune) character, and other lucky symbols.
