As part of the anniversary programme series, the Department of Counselling and Psychology at Hong Kong Shue Yan University hosted a public lecture on 15 May 2026 titled “Understanding the Psychology Behind Online Scams .” Dr Lam Yin-Hung, Associate Head (Postgraduate Studies) of the Department, drew on psychological insights to explain how scammers exploit human vulnerabilities and emotional responses. She traced the psychological journey of victims and unpacked the behavioural patterns and manipulation techniques commonly used by fraudsters.

 

At the same time, HKSYU volunteers set up a digital support station for seniors, offering on-site assistance with mobile phone operations and sharing fraud-prevention knowledge.
