Internship Experience Sharing

Bevan YIP, a Year 4 Finance and Technology student from Department of Economics and Finance of HKSYU, undertakes a credit-bearing internship at Kowloon Shangri-La for two months in 2024 summer. The internship enhanced his practical and technical skills, and solidified his passion for financial technology.

During his time at the Finance Shared Service Centre (FSSC) of Kowloon Shangri-La, Bevan assisted in the accounts receivable function for two hotels and conducting daily tasks such as processing and verifying refund, processing payment confirmation and preparing trial balances.

“This internship offered me the opportunity to hone my practical and technical skills. I utilized CMD and Python to optimize my work processes, ensuring high-quality and high-quantity outputs. My understanding of various payment methods has also been enhanced. I became familiar with software platforms such as DMS and Oracle, which played a key role in identifying discrepancies or missing values. Juggling with multiple tasks during my internship, I have learned how to effectively prioritize my tasks, manage my time, and maintain accuracy under pressure,” Bevan said.

Bevan highlighted his fintech knowledge provided a solid foundation for his internship work, particularly in how technology streamlines the refund process. “This hands-on experience reinforced my belief in the transformative power of fintech and motivated me to delve deeper into this field in both my studies and future career.” He also expressed that the overall internship experience solidified his passion for financial technology, and he looks forward to further learning in this dynamic field.
