A three-day International Conference 2024 titled “Expanding Potential and Caring for All,” co-hosted by Hong Kong Shue Yan University and Saint Francis University, took place on November 8, 9, and 11, 2024. The session on November 11, titled “The Future Development of Caregiving Policy and Practice in Hong Kong: International Perspectives and Local Initiatives,” was successfully held at the HKSYU campus.

This year’s international conference covered numerous themes, including international perspectives and local initiatives; interdisciplinary and trans-sectoral collaboration in caregiving; equipping the next generation of caregivers through research and educational curriculum; addressing the needs of carers; and emerging intervention approaches to support caregivers, from children to older adults.

During the session held at HKSYU, Professor Catherine SUN, our Senior Vice President, delivered welcoming remarks. Professor Vivian LOU, Director of the Sau Po Centre on Ageing at The University of Hong Kong; MS Jenny YAN, Assistant Director of Social Welfare Department; Mr Stanley LI, MH, JP, Legislative Councilor; Mr Horace LIT, Executive Manger (Charities), Hong Kong Jockey Club; and Dr Steve FONG Fu-fai, Head of the Department of Social Work at HKSYU, discussed the needs of carers, focusing on assessment, information provision, and response.
