In today’s digital era, the Department of Business Administration is proactively integrating ABC training development—focusing on AI, Big Data, and Cloud technologies—into both undergraduate and postgraduate curricula. Dr Monica LAW Chui-chui, Head of Department, emphasised that by embedding AI-driven business decision-making, big data analytics, and cloud platform management into teaching frameworks, the Department ensures that business education remains forward-looking and technology-empowered.

Marking HKSYU’s 55th anniversary, Dr LAW expressed her wish for the University to uphold the spirit of “Cultivating virtues of benevolence; broadening horizon and knowledge”(敦仁博物), while actively driving transformation in Digital Humanities.

The Department drives robust industry-academia collaboration that bridges classroom learning with real-world business environments. Through internship partnerships, student competitions, and practitioner-sharing seminars, scholarly insights are translated into practical value:

Internship Partnerships: Collaborations with leading corporations, SMEs, and digital startups provide students with hands-on exposure to modern corporate operations, enabling them to apply ABC skills in real business scenarios. Students are encouraged to pursue internships in Chinese Mainland and overseas. For example, last academic year, one student completed an internship at Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd. (Philippines), while some students worked at the Bank of China, and the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (Zhuhai).

Student Competitions: Students are encouraged to participate in local and international business case competitions, fostering innovative solutions to contemporary business challenges. In collaboration with Bauhaus International (Holdings) Limited, students enrolled in “eBusiness Management” analyse company data, with outstanding teams selected to compete in an Inter-University Competition with City University of Hong Kong.

Practitioner-Sharing Seminars: Industry leaders, entrepreneurs, and functional experts are invited to share market trends and strategic insights, keeping the academic ecosystem dynamically connected to industry shifts. The Department’s core strength lies in its interdisciplinary expertise, robust industry connectivity, and unwavering commitment to student development. It currently offers three Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) programmes, with one programme featuring five specialised concentrations.

Professional Recognition and Exemptions: BBA programmes maintain the highest academic standards, offering students direct pathways to professional membership and examination exemptions from professional bodies including HKIHRM, HKIM, CIM, IFPHK and HKCGI.

Faculty Expertise: Most faculty members possess extensive industry and consulting experience, alongside professional qualifications. Several have overseas work experience and diverse academic backgrounds spanning psychology, management information systems, and information technology.

Experiential Learning: Beyond lectures, the Department organises signature initiatives such as Business Week, leads students in local and international competitions, and arranges firm visits and field trips to leading enterprises. The course “Asia Pacific Management Issues” involves collaboration with a Japanese university, where HKSYU and Japanese students jointly conduct project research and presentations.
