In support of the University’s five-year strategic development, the Department of Accounting is renewing its curriculum, strengthening professional training and advancing research to prepare graduates for a rapidly changing digital and sustainability focused business environment.
Dr LEE Hua, Head of the Department, said new courses will cover Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) disclosure and sustainability reporting, Python programming applications in accounting and finance, and data visualisation. Students will develop the ability to use digital tools to process, analyse and present financial information, strengthening their practical skills and employability. The initiatives will also enhance teachers’ digital teaching capabilities and keep learning aligned with industry needs.
The Department’s course, Professional Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility, uses corporate case studies to explore sustainability governance, ethical decision-making, responsible investment and corporate disclosure. Dr LEE said the course brings Digital Humanities perspectives into accounting education, highlighting that technology should serve society and support responsible business decisions, in line with the University’s knowledge transfer mission.
Accredited by local and international professional accounting bodies, the Department’s programmes cover professional accounting, corporate accounting and finance, and tax consultancy. Faculty members combine expertise in accounting, finance and taxation with practical knowledge of tools such as MySQL, ACL and Python, enabling students to connect theoretical foundations with real-world applications.
Through case analysis and application-oriented learning, students strengthen teamwork, communication, critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. Faculty research on sustainability reporting quality, corporate social responsibility reporting and ESG disclosure is incorporated into teaching, enabling students to understand current professional issues and industry challenges.
Marking the University’s 55th anniversary, Dr LEE extended the message, “Renowned in education, a shining light of academia,” and expressed the hope that it will continue to innovate while upholding its educational tradition, nurturing graduates with global vision, professional competence and social responsibility.
