Hong Kong Shue Yan University (HKSYU) has officially commenced renovation work at its Wan Chai Gap Road campus, transforming the historic campus into a student hostel. The project is expected to provide approximately 170 hostel places, with completion targeted as early as the third quarter of next year.
A commencement ceremony was held on 21 October 2026, attended by members of the senior management, including President Dr Hu Fai-chung, Senior Vice-President Professor Catherine Sun Tien-lun, Academic Vice-President Professor Chan Ching, and Vice-President (University Administration) Dr Jason Chow Tak-sang, among others.
Dr Jason Chow, who is overseeing the project, said that the Wan Chai Gap Road campus has witnessed Shue Yan’s growth and holds cherished memories for generations of Shue Yan members. Its conversion into a student hostel not only makes effective use of existing resources but also allows the campus to continue serving a future generation of students in a new capacity.
Dr Chow added that the University is committed to providing a safe, comfortable, and welcoming living environment that fosters a strong sense of belonging. Despite the challenges ahead, HKSYU will continue to uphold the “Shue Yan Spirit,” drawing on collective wisdom and dedication to overcome obstacles and ensure the successful completion of the renovation project.
