Alumnus Calvin Lam, who graduated from the Department of Journalism and Communication at Hong Kong Shue Yan University (HKSYU) in 2006, has served as an emcee for nearly two decades. He has maintained close ties with his alma mater and frequently takes on the role of emcee at university events, including the 55th Anniversary & Volunteer Team Launch Ceremony. Expressing deep gratitude for the education and guidance he received, he paid tribute to the University’s founders, Dr Henry Hu Hung-lick and Dr Chung Chi-yung, whose selfless dedication to education inspired him to carry forward the Shue Yan spirit.
Reflecting on his student days, Calvin recalled: “Entering the University in 2002, I witnessed how Dr Hu and Dr Chung built the university from scratch through continuous sacrifice and hard work. As a student and junior, their dedication was an immense source of motivation for me.” In his professional role as an emcee, Calvin not only applies his expertise but also hopes, as an alumnus, to work alongside younger generations in serving the community. Over the past 20 years, he deeply felt that much of his personal and professional growth stems from his alma mater—particularly the value of giving back to society through one’s profession. He believes this attitude embodies the core spirit that should be passed down through generations.
