Hong Kong Shue Yan University (HKSYU) has commenced its first round of registration following the release of the DSE results. By noon, HKSYU received over 13,000 applications, submitted either in person or via its online platform — representing a 15% year-on-year increase. Among the most popular departments were Social Work, Business Administration, and Journalism and Communication.
Miss Sze, a student from Canossa College, expressed that the Department of Chinese Language and Literature was her top choice, citing HKSYU’s long-standing history and the strong career prospects of its graduates. Mr Cheung from Sha Tin Methodist College applied for the Social Work programme, noting its diverse career pathways and professional internship opportunities. He added that he was determined to perform his best during the on-site interview.
Dr Chow Tak-sang, Vice President (University Administration), described the registration numbers are satisfactory, attributing it to the University’s introduction of programmes that align with contemporary developments and societal needs, as well as HKSYU’s recent inclusion in the QS World University Rankings. He highlighted that alongside traditional majors such as Journalism and Communication, Business Administration, and Social Work, newer programmes have also attracted significant interest. These include the Bachelor of Social Sciences (Hons) in Forensic and Investigative Psychology, the Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Applied Data Science, and the Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) in Financial Technology.
Regarding admission criteria, Dr Chow emphasised that the University looks beyond academic performance, placing strong emphasis on students’ holistic development. By reinventing its liberal arts education, HKSYU aims to provide a distinctive, high-quality learning experience that broadens students’ horizons and yields fruitful outcomes.
