Thanks to the generous support of the Tin Ka Ping Foundation, the Office of Student Affairs (OSA) and Industrial Attachment Office (IAO) successfully organized the “Taiwan Indigenous Culture and Sustainable Community Development Service Learning Tour” (台灣原住民文化及社區永續發展服務學習計劃) in May. A total of 24 students took part in this 10-day program.
In partnership with National Ilan University (國立宜蘭大學), the service learning tour to Yilan in Taiwan was led by two faculty and staff members and offered a unique blend of service, teaching, visits, and excursions.
The students engaged in two ecological tours and participated in a beach cleanup, providing them with firsthand experience in sustainable development practices and an understanding of the importance of sustainable development goals (SDGs). They also visited a local primary school and organized workshops for the children.
A highlight of the tour was the students’ stay in an indigenous-operated homestay, where they immersed themselves in the culture and life of the Atayal indigenous people (泰雅族). This cultural experience deepened the students’ understanding of indigenous life and facilitated cultural exchange.
