Dr Raymond YEUNG Wai-man and PhD Student Michael MAI Chulin from Department of Economics and Finance at Hong Kong Shue Yan University participated in the 2024 Annual Conference of China Society of World Economics(CSWE)and Youth Forum held at Guangzhou College of Commerce from November 15 to 17.

The conference, titled “Technology, Finance, Geo – politics, and the Future of the World Economy,” attracted over 500 leading experts and scholars from nearly 90 universities and research institutions across the country. The conference also saw an unprecedented number of paper submissions, with over 700 contributions from scholars – a new record for the China Society of World Economics. Follow ing a rigorous review process by a panel of experts, more than 200 papers were selected for presentation at the forum, showcasing cutting-edge research in the field of world economics.

Dr Raymond YEUNG Wai-man presented “The Re – lationship Between Monetary Power and Monetary Strategy: An Initial Exploration of Defense Monetary Economics.” His presentation shed light on the intricate dynamics between monetary policy, national security, and global economic strategies. His insights provided a fresh perspective on how currency power can be leveraged in the realm of defense economics.

Mr Michael MAI Chulin, in collaboration with Prof LI Sung-ko from Department of Economics and Finance, discussed “Measuring the Technical Efficiency of Firms in Multi-output Industries: Revisit – ing China’s Accession to WTO.” Their paper analyzed the impact of China’s accession to the WTO on the technical efficiency of firms under multi-output measurement, offering new insights into the evolution of China’s economic integration.

The Annual Conference of China Society of World Economics serves as a platform for leading economists to discuss and exchange insights on international economic conditions and innovative ideas. Presentations by Dr YEUNG and Mr MAI sparked rich academic discussions, enabling participants to un – derstand the challenges and opportunities presented by the evolving global economic landscape.
