Hong Kong Shue Yan University (HKSYU) is ranked 360th in the QS World University Rankings: Asia 2026, placing it within the top 25% of ranked institutions and reinforcing its status as the top-ranked private university in Hong Kong.

In an interview with Shue Yan Newsletter, Dr Alex Li Wang-on, Associate Academic Vice President (University Research) of HKSYU, noted that QS analyzed 1,526 institutions this year—an increase of 550 or 56% compared to last year—making the competition more intense. Despite this, HKSYU’s percentile ranking improved from the top 34.5% last year to 23.5%, reflecting the university’s sustained competitiveness.

Dr Li pointed out that HKSYU improved in two indicators under the “Global Engagement” category: International Students and Outbound Exchange Students, highlighting the university’s growing global presence. He remarked that HKSYU is committed to supporting student exchange programmes, with the Centre for Global Engagement (CGE) actively building new partnerships. Students can look forward to more overseas learning opportunities

Academic research remains a significant component in QS evaluation. Dr Li emphasized that beyond encouraging research output, HKSYU is working to deepen its research networks and strengthen partnerships with other institutions, industries, and community organizations. These efforts aim to maximize research visibility and transfer knowledge into social benefits.

To support these goals, the university has established the Events Support Fund to subsidize the organization of academic and knowledge exchange activities. Meanwhile, the Industrial Attachment Office (IAO) is enhancing its ties with industry partners to foster collaboration across research, educational, and industry sectors—ultimately enhancing students’ career readiness.
