HKSYU held its Opening Ceremony on August 26 at Lady Lily Shaw Hall. The event was attended by Dr Hu Fai-chung, Acting President; Professor Sun Tien-lun, Senior Vice President; Professor Selina Chan, Academic Vice President; Dr Jason Chow, Vice President (University Administration); along with other senior management members, department heads, faculty members, and administrative leaders. Over a thousand freshmen also attended, marking the beginning of their academic journey at HKSYU.
Professor Selina Chan shared the university’s remarkable legacy and ambitions to new students. She began by introducing two founders — the late Dr Henry Hu Hung-lick and Dr Chung Chi-yung — highlighting their altruism and selflessness are rooted in Confucian values, particularly kindness (仁), as reflected in the university’s name “樹仁”.
In keeping with the founders’ spirit, HKSYU is dedicated to promoting benevolence through education, as encapsulate in its motto “敦仁博物”. Professor Chan emphasized that these Confucian values are not only taught but also demonstrated through the founders’ deeds. She encouraged all new students to let moral integrity be their compass as they acquire knowledge and expand horizons, ensuring their contribution enrich both their own lives and the greater community.
After the ceremony, orientation activities were held by the Faculties of Arts, Commerce, and Social Sciences, where new students met their teachers and prepared for the upcoming academic year.
