Dr James Wong Kong-tin, an alumnus of Hong Kong Shue Yan University (HKSYU) and Vice-Chairman of the Agency for Volunteer Service, returned to campus for an exchange with Dr Lee Shu-kam, Head of Department of Economics and Finance, and six students from the department. During the dialogue, Dr Wong encouraged students to enhance their personal capabilities through active participation in volunteer activities. He shared how the spirit of “benevolence” instilled by his alma mater has shaped his lifelong commitment to social service.
He also reflected on the university’s motto, “Cultivating virtues of benevolence; broadening horizon and knowledge”, noting how it has remained deeply embedded in his mind. Looking back on his four years at HKSYU, he affirmed that the experience successfully nurtured his positive outlook and values. He encouraged younger students to work hard and strive for excellence, assuring them that with determination, they can achieve even greater success.
